There are two steps to the exercise. When the whistle is blown the first time the kids will begin to run towards the opposite side of the court. While they are running at a random moment, you will blow the whistle once more or if you are not using a whistle, yell ‘hit the floor.’ At that point in time, the player or players will be diver towards the ground as if they were diving for a ball.
Within this exercise there are certain safety considerations you have to make to ensure the protection of the kids from physical injury. For one you need to make sure that they are all geared up in terms of wearing knee and arm pads so they don’t scrape them. Secondly it is also advised to tell the kids not to slam down on their knees since repeating that may cause pain.
Beach Ball Practice
At times volleyball can be slightly tricky for kids as connecting with the game, and coordinating their movements accordingly can be difficult. In order to establish this connection with the actual volleyball beach ball can be used for practice.
For this you would need a blow up beach ball, which is larger than a normal volleyball but still of moderate size and not too large. The kids will be using this ball to simulate volleyball, swinging, and passing.
The purpose of this drill is to allow kids to perfect their stance, reaction time, and swinging. Since a beach ball is lighter than a volleyball, it will not fall as fast as a volleyball. This allows for players to have a few more seconds to make their move with the ball. Consequently, they will have ample time to get into the stance and swing the way they want to.
Although the initial exercise is simple it can be made more advanced by adding levels to it. You can do this by allowing kids to get used to playing the ball in a circle at first but then alternate between swinging harder from farther away and swinging with control from close.
Scrimmage drills are always a useful drill for different sports. These drills allow for players to get used to the in-the game environment and better understand how to move around the court. When it comes to volleyball, the greed scrimmage drill is one of the most useful drills out there.
This specific scrimmage drill works by setting up 6 players on each side of the net. If there are more than 12 kids playing, then you can rotate different players at different times of the game.
After positioning the players at either side of the net you have to place 6 balls, which will be played at both sides of the court. The balls alternate the actual point system in this scrimmage drill.
Whoever wins a point, gains a ball, which results in the opposite team serving their ball. The game continues until a set time (if present) elapses or one team holds all the balls.
The major difference between a real game and this scrimmage drill is that serves don’t take turns based on points in this. They rotate between serve and receive after every service, regardless of who gets the point. Due to this, the game is made more competitive since a more tangible scoring system is established in the game.
One of the most important aspects of volleyball is the accuracy of your swing. Without knowing where to land the ball and having the capability to land it exactly where you want you cannot be good at a game like volleyball. Cone Knock Down is one of the most useful volleyball drills for elementary students. It is the perfect target practice to improve timing and accuracy.
For this drill, you need to spread out cones spontaneously all over one half of the court. The kids will then serve the balls and try to knock down the cones. It improves their serving capabilities and makes it serves much more accurate.

Passing and Swinging
